Unique composite indicia or markings are applied to a succession of articles. A code (e.g. an alphanumeric code) may be derived from the composite indicium and may be later accessed for identifying or verifying the article with the indicium. The indicium may be recorded, or logged, at any time before it is needed. Information may be send to and retrieved from the database using the Internet, an Intranet, a radio frequency identification (RFID)-capable interface, or a wireless service such as a short message service (SMS). |
