A high-performance decoding process allowing the degree of design freedom to be increased substantially has been implemented. A transmission apparatus (10) of a data transmission and reception system comprises converters (110), (111) and (112), multipliers (120), (121) and (122), adders (130) and (131) and a transmission unit 14. The converters (110), (111) and (112) convert information-bit sequences b <(0)>, b <(1)> and b <(2)> respectively into encoded sequences x <(0)>, x <(1)> and x <(2)> respectively. The multipliers (120), (121) and (122) multiply respectively the encoded sequences x <(0)>, x <(1)> and x <(2)> by constants a <(0)>, a <(1)> and a <(2)> respectively. The adder (130) adds a constant-times encoded sequence a <(0)> x <(0)> produced by the multiplier (120) as a result of multiplication to a constant-times encoded sequence a <(1)> x <(1)> produced by the multiplier (121) as a result of multiplication. The adder (131) adds an additive encoded sequence a <(0)> x <(0)> + a <(1)> x <(1)> produced by the adder (130) as a result of addition to a constant-times encoded sequence a <(2)> x <(2)> produced by the multiplier (122) as a result of multiplication. The transmission unit 14 transmits an additive encoded sequence g (= a <(0)>x <(0)> + a <(1)> x <(1)> + a <(2)> x <(2)> produced by the adder (131) as a result of addition to an external apparatus as a transmitted signal g'. <IMAGE>
