Strips (5) of laminate material comprising fibre and polymer layers are spirally wound around a fixed mandrel (10) and pressed against and moved along the latter using a flat belt (14). A machine for producing tubular bodies uses strips of material with a multi-layer construction based on plant and/or synthetic fibres and meltable polymers as the primary material. The multi-layer materials may optionally include aluminium layers. The strips are spirally wound whilst partly overlapping in order to form a tubular body and the adjoining strips are fixed together by melt bonding. The machine comprises a fixed mandrel with a slanting or axial orientation which is connected at one end to a support (15) and designed to receive the strips, which extend obliquely and at a tangent to the mandrel. A flat belt extending around the mandrel is used to press the strips against the mandrel and move them along the latter.
