The equipment has a combination of a digitizing device in three dimension by a laser beam (2) and a weighing device (3) is provided for supporting a control piece (1). The digitizing device and the weighing device are related and interconnected by a computer (4) that records the readings of two devices. The readings of the devices are interpreted by the computer to give the values of volume and weight. The values are given to relate the exact result of the density of the control ceramic specimen or piece. An independent claim is included for a method for determining the bulk density, particularly for determining the density of a piece.
