PURPOSE: A phased array antenna having a self-check function and a checking method thereof are provided to decide abnormal states of a phase shifter and a signal processor by using a transmission unit of a radar, a phased array antenna, and a signal processor. CONSTITUTION: A phased array antenna having a self-check function includes a phased array antenna and a self-check circuit. The phased array antenna includes a rotor, a power distributor, a plurality of phase shifters, a beam control computer, a plurality of antennas, and a plurality of termination loads. The rotor(11) is used for transmitting the transmission power of a radar system to the other system and transmitting a received signal to a reception unit of the radar system. The power distributor(12) is used for distributing the transmission power. The phase shifters(13) are used for controlling phases of output signals of the power distributor. The beam control computer(14) is used for outputting a control signal for controlling phases of the phase shifters. The antennas(15) are used for radiating the output signals of the phase shifters. The termination loads(16) are used for extinguishing the remaining signals. The self-check circuit(130) is used for deciding abnormal states of the phase shifters by calculating a phase value of a check signal.
