PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for encrypting and compressing multimedia data are provided to encrypt and compress the multimedia data according to an encoding result changed by performing an entropy encoding according to a certain encryption key. CONSTITUTION: A DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) unit(110) converts inputted multimedia data into discrete signals, and generates DCT coefficients having AC and DC coefficients. A quantization unit(150) quantizes the DCT coefficients using a quantization table(130). An entropy encoding unit(170) performs the entropy encoding of the quantized AC and DC coefficients using a certain encryption key.
