PURPOSE: A method for inputting other party's telephone number by using a hot key while transmitting a short message is provided to apply a hot dialing function, which a user frequently uses while making a call, to a short message transmission function, thereby easily inputting other party's telephone number. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a short message transmission service item of a mobile communication terminal, and inputs a short message(S21). The short message is to be transmitted to other party's mobile communication terminal. When the short message is completely inputted, the user inputs the other party's telephone number to which the short message is to be transmitted(S22). If the user presses a pre-registered key for 0.5 second, the mobile communication terminal retrieves a hot key table and displays a telephone number assigned to a hot key. If the user presses a character transmission confirmation button(S23), the mobile communication terminal transmits the short message to the other party's mobile communication terminal.
