PURPOSE: A method for inputting multiple characters is provided to divide characters into representative characters, and to mark characters with the representative characters on a keypad, then to set the marked characters by using directional keys, thereby enabling a user to easily input the characters. CONSTITUTION: Representative characters are assigned on keys. Special characters and foreign words are grouped according to characteristics of each representative character. If a user presses representative keys of inputted characters, the characters are displayed in table type on a display. The user selects the corresponding characters by using directional keys(2), and inputs the selected characters.
