Described is the use of compounds of formula II, III, or IV for the manufacture of medicaments for the control or treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, neuroprotection, schizophrenia, anxiety, pain, respiration deficits, depression, asthma, allergic responses, hypoxia, ischaemia, seizure, substance abuse, sedation, and for use as muscle relaxants, antipsychotics, antiepileptics, anticonvulsants and cardiaprotective agents; for which the substituents are defined herein.
