Tap joint to pipe or fitting

The joint connects a branch (2) of a tap (1) or other cast metal fitting to a pipe (5). The tap branch is pressed onto the pipe, its compression-load limit being at the most equal to that of the pipe. Thus, on release of the force pressing the tap branch home, the pipe shows a tendency to resume its original shape, which the branch resists.
