Ointments containing chondroitin-sulphate are used for topical treatment of dry/ageing skin and of aneurism. Chondroitin-sulphate a muco-polysaccharide compound and hyaluronic acid of similar chemical composition is lost from the epidermis, causing its structure to alter as it becomes thinner and loses the ability to hold sufficient moisture. Introduction of chondroitin-sulphate improves the production of hyaluronic acid. The latter improves the cohesion of horn-scales, the thickness and elasticity of the epidermis. The preparation also treats effectively unpleasant anaesthetic and unhealthy skin-lesions due to aneurism. Chondroitin based aqueous ointment formulations also contain excipients and optionally scents. |
