PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically select a printer suitable to copy conditions and image features for printing a read-out image, and to let a user change this automatic selection simply. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 2a+4a comprises a copy mode input means 51, a manuscript read means 2a, a means "linking" for instructing a linking mode in which a read-out image is transferred to printers #1-#5 via a network 1, communication means 52 and 54 for collecting the present condition information including information for printing functions and readiness for print job acceptance from the printers #1-#5 when the linking mode is instructed, a means 53 for detecting the image features for every page of a manuscript based on the image data, a means 52 for searching for a printer having high suitability for printing conditions defined based on the copy processing conditions and for detected image features out of printers ready to print job acceptance, and means 54 to 57 for transferring read-out image data to a searched printer.
