PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera with zooming function, in which satisfactory picture quality by an optical zoom is secured, power consumption is small and an operation is simple. SOLUTION: When a photographing mode is selected, a zoom lens is set at a wide end (initial position) and take-in of a through picture is started. When a zooming operation is performed by a zoom key, an electronic zooming processing is performed on the through picture in accordance with an operation rate. When a shutter key is fully depressed, electronic zooming is released, the zoom lens is driven based on an electronic zoom magnification at the time of a shutter operation and an optical zoom magnification is changed. At the time of framing, electronic zooming is performed and the zoom lens is driven only at the time of photographing. Thus, consumption of a battery power is small. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
