PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new display element, capable of having writing property or the like, excellent in basic function such as visibility, rewritability, and preservable property of display images and also excellent in flexibility, thin formability, and portability. SOLUTION: This rewrite-type display element is constituted of a substrate, a display recording layer composed of a fullerenes compound which absorbs laser beams laminated on the substrate directly or with another layer, and, if necessary, a translucent inorganic ceramic layer laminated on the display recording layer directly or with another layer. The display section of the display recording layer is colored in black to record information by irradiating laser beams, and the displayed information can be erased by irradiating laser beams or by heating the display recoding layer.
