PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an identifying apparatus for identifying both the sides of an anodic oxide film. SOLUTION: The identifying apparatus has a radiating section 102 for radiating a light beam to an objective surface to be identified of an anodic oxide film S and a detecting section 104 for detecting the intensity of a light beam reflected by the objective surface. The radiating section 102 is arranged so that the light beam radiated thereby reaches the objective surface of the anodic oxide film S with an incident angle of 60°. The detecting section 104 is arranged so as to intersect the optical path of the light beam reflected by the objective surface and outputs a detection signal corresponding to the intensity of the light beam reflected by the objective surface. Comparing the detection signal from the detecting section 104 with a preset threshold value clarifies whether the objective surface of the anodic oxide film S is its front or rear side.
