813,982. Endless belt conveyers; fairleads. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Oct. 11, 1955 [July 28, 1954], No. 22052/54. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (5). In a belt conveyer of the kind in which the belt is carried on one or more endless driving cables, the or each cable is guided from one run of the belt to the other by means comprising a support having rotatably mounted therein a plurality of supporting pulleys disposed to guide the cable smoothly around a curve and means for preventing disengagement of the cable from the pulleys as it passes over the latter due to surge or bounce of the cable. As shown, the belt (not shown) is carried on two runs of cable disposed adjacent respective edges of the belt, the two cable runs 13, 14 being formed from a single cable by passing the cable first along one run, over a conventional reversing pulley (not shown) at the remote end of this run, back along a corresponding lower return run, then diagonally across one of two series of rollers 11, Fig. 2, from this lower run to the other operative run, over a conventional reversing pulley (not shown) at the remote end of this run, back along a corresponding lower return run, then finally across the second of the two series of rollers 11 to re-commence the first-mentioned run. Each series of rollers 11 is carried by an arcuate support 10 of channel section, the two supports 10 extending at right angles to each other and fitting one within the space bounded by the other (Fig. 1). The means for preventing disengagement of the cable from the pulleys due to surge or bounce of the cable comprises the provision of each end of each support, of a roller 15, Fig. 5, which is journalled in brackets 16 secured to the support and arranged to trap the cable between it and one of the pulleys 11. |
