<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which the time required for resetting from an energy saving mode can be shortened while reducing power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A CPU makes a decision whether print data was inputted to a communication interface within a prescribed time or not (S11). If it was inputted (S11; Y), the CPU waits as it is and if it was not inputted (S11; N), the CPU transmits a power supply control section control signal to a power supply control section and turns off power supply to a print section (S12). Subsequently, the CPU transmits a counter control signal and sets a count (S13) and then makes a decision whether the count matches a prescribed target frequency or not (S14). When it matches the target frequency (S14; Y), the CPU brings the image forming apparatus into sleep state (S15) thus ending the processing.
