PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car navigation system capable of easily recognizing, if a road traffic hindrance occurs, a distance from the occurrence point of hindrance and the area of hindrance occurrence. SOLUTION: An own car position calculating means 102 calculates its own car position coordinates by inputting positional information from a GPS receiver 5a or a self-contained navigation unit 5b. A recommended route travel decision means 104 decides whether the car is traveling on the recommended route which is a route automatically set based on a start point and a destination point. A recommended route traffic information generating means 105 generates traffic information on the recommended route when the recommended route travel decision means 104 decides the car is traveling on the recommended route.
