PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of transmitting information about the compression of a dynamic range to a printer without the necessity of making a user be aware of whether each item of the image data has been recorded in a wide dynamic range or not. SOLUTION: The digital camera is provided with a function of photographing a subject and recording the image data to a recording medium in a dynamic range wider than that at the time of printing. Further, the camera is provided with a function of storing tag information into an image file 61 together with the image data and recording the file 61 into a recording medium, the tag information including range compression information 62a indicating whether dynamic range compression has been performed or not, maximum range information 62b indicating the maximum subject reflection factor before and after the dynamic range compression, and knee point information 62c indicating the subject reflection factor at the time of performing the dynamic range compression.
