<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problem that a processing speed is made incommensurably lower than in the case of prereading font data into a memory, in the performance of processing such that a font of an HD is retrieved and read into the memory, in accordance with each of a font specifying instruction and a font selecting instruction, included in printing data on a printing job, midway through the printing job. <P>SOLUTION: In terms of an apparatus and a method for forming an image by referring to font information so as to expand the font information into image data, only the information, which is required for the selection of the font, among the font data of the HD is prestored in an embedded memory (RAM) when the capacity of the font data stored in a secondary storage device (HD) is greater than the memory capacity of the embedded memory.
