PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor which increases carrier transport efficiency in charge transport layers to transport pairs of positive and negative carriers photoexcited in a charge generating layer, perfectly blocks injection of charges from a conductive support, prevents a lightning strike and leak discharge liable to occur when field intensity in the charge transport layers becomes large, and prevents occurrence of image defects such as fog. SOLUTION: In the electrophotographic photoreceptor having at least a charge generating layer 2 and charge transport layers 4, 5 on a conductive support 1, the charge transport layers are formed on and under the charge generating layer. As a result, the electrophotographic photoreceptor ensures very low residual potential independently of electrostatic properties such as surface potential and sensitivity, is free of occurrence of image defects, and also has high repetition stability.
