PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling water electrolytic metabolism of organisms and acid-base equilibrium in blood, particularly the method for controlling electrolytic metabolism of organisms and acid-base equilibrium in blood in a case when metabolic acidosis is superinduced by thermal burn, hemorrhagic shock, multiple organ failure, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), etc. SOLUTION: A hydrogen carbonate ion-containing preparation in which sodium hydrogen carbonate is blended as an alkalizing agent rapidly develops acidosis-correcting effect and rapidly loses the acidosis-correcting effect by stopping administration. As a result, the preparation does not cause metabolic alkalosis or alkalosis after finishing administration or does not cause hypernatremia. Electrolytic metabolism of organisms and acid-base equilibrium in blood can safely and effectively be controlled by continuously administering the hydrogen carbonate ion-containing preparation at a rate of 2-60 mL/Kg/hr.
