PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorbing member for a vehicle capable of greatly improving impact energy absorbing capacity with avoiding great increase of weight. SOLUTION: This member consists of a housing 1 formed of a rigid body with having a hollow part therein and fixed to a frame member of the vehicle, and an impact energy absorbing body 2 arranged in the hollow part of the housing 1 and made of super plastic polymer. The impact energy absorbing body 2 has at least 200% tensile fracture elongation, at least 20MPa specified strain yield strength, and at least 400MPa tensile elastic modulus. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
