A text message processing technique involves identifying (for example, in an SMS Router 2) a text message by means of characteristics of the text message as belonging to a category of text messages, and transforming characteristics of such an identified text message according to characteristics of the text message. The transformed text message is onward delivered to its destination together with a source address in alphanumeric form to be displayed upon receipt. The source address is derived on the basis of a characteristic of the text message as entered by the sender of the text message.
