PURPOSE: A composition for treatment of male erectile dysfunction containing phentolamine and alprostadil in a buffer containing L-arginine and glycine is provided. It helps cause, promote and maintain an erection and increases or recovers human sexual reaction when injected into the corpora cavernosa of the penis. CONSTITUTION: The composition for treatment of male erectile dysfunction contains phentolamine and alprostadil in a buffer containing a substrate for nitric oxide synthesis. The phentolamine is phentolamine mesylate, phentolamine hydrochloride or phentolamine salts which meet pharmaceutical standards. The composition contains phentolamine mesylate and alprostadil in a weight ratio of abut 5:0.005 and in a concentration of about 0 to 10mg/ml and about 0 to 40mg/ml respectively. The substrate for nitric oxide synthesis is a mixture of L-arginine and glycine.
