PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an N-oxyl compound on an industrial scale at a low cost by reacting a secondary amine (two carbon atoms bonded to the amino group have no hydrogen atom) with hydrogen peroxide. SOLUTION: The N-oxyl compound is produced by reacting a secondary amine (two carbon atoms bonded to the amino group have no hydrogen atom) with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a tungsten oxide catalyst. The tungsten oxide catalyst is produced by reacting one or more compounds selected from tungsten metal, a tungsten compound composed of tungsten and a group IIIb element, a tungsten compound composed of tungsten and a group IVb element, a tungsten compound composed of tungsten and a group Vb element, and a tungsten compound composed of tungsten and a group VIb element excluding oxygen with hydrogen peroxide.
