Manual-drive motor vehicle automatic switching on and off method, using sensors to detect both neutral and clutch pedal position so that the engine can be turned off when stationary with the clutch fully depressed

A method for automatic switching on and off of the engine of a manual-drive motor vehicle. According to the method a first sensor (Sg) is used to detect the neutral position of the gearbox (306). A clutch sensor (S1) is used to detect complete activation of the clutch, i.e. pedal (301) fully depressed. When the vehicle is stationary with the clutch fully depressed, even with the gearbox not in neutral, the engine is turned off. An Independent claim is made for a motor vehicle with a control unit for automatic switching on and off of the engine.
