The screw conveyor (10) is constructed for compression, the screw having at least one plain section without screw flights (11.0) in the tubular screw casing (12). A single screw-, or parallel double-screw type of conveyer is employed. The flightless section intervenes between two screw sections, the first of which is longer and has a filling funnel (13.1) associated with it. The second is at the outlet, where there is a constriction. The line (16) to which the screw conveyor outlet is connected, is connected at each end to the interior of the digester vessel (2), for recirculation using a pump (17), which follows the point of injection. A comminuter (18) is installed just before the pump.
