PURPOSE: A floating license management method and system is provided to make a license manager of a server manage a license issue, a license termination request or a current status of a client, and to determine whether a client has a legal effective license. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises several steps. An application at a client is executed(s200). A license process module at the client transmits a license allotment request signal to a license manager at a server(s202). If the license module at the client receives a license certification signal from the license manager at the server(s204), the license module at the client normally drives the application, and executes a timer for a repetitive request of a license(s206). The license module transmits a repetitive request of the license to the license manager at every set time set in the timer, and receives permission or no-permission signals for the requests. According to the received signals, the application is continuously driven or stopped.
