摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system which generates high gain efficiency and a wide gain band by using stimulation light of lower power than conventional Raman amplification and which compensates the loss of signals in the transmission line. <P>SOLUTION: The optical transmission system is configured to allow the signal light to perform dispersion gain in the optical transmission line where the signal light propagates. The optical transmission system is equipped with: a stimulation light source for Brillouin amplification to output the stimulation light for Brillouin amplification which propagates through the optical transmission line; and an stimulation light source for Raman amplification to output the stimulation light for Raman amplification which propagates through the optical transmission line in the opposite direction to the above stimulation light for the Brillouin amplification. The stimulation light for the Brillouin amplification induces the Brillouin amplification of the stimulation light for the Raman amplification in the optical transmission line, and the amplified stimulation light for the Raman amplification induces the Raman amplification of the signal light in the optical transmission line. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
