<p>866,779. Tyre treads. ECKERT, W. May 13, 1957 [Aug. 9, 1956; April 15, 1957], No. 15058/57. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre having a profiled rubber tread is provided with a detachable endless open-work tread band 3 of a moulded plastics material having a higher frictional resistance than that of the rubber tread, the band being fitted into corresponding recesses in the rubber tread so that the outer surfaces of the rubber tread and the band are co-planar. The band may be fitted to a single tyre tread or, as shown, may be fitted to twin tyres 1, 2. In the latter case, the band comprises integral transverse members 3a bridging the gap between the tyres 1, 2 and upstanding from a central continuous circumferential rib 7 which seats against the adjacent side-walls of the tyres 1 and 2 but does not completely fill the gap therebetween. The side edges of the band may be reinforced by circumferential cords 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and the central rib 7 may be reinforced by circumferential cords 5, 51 and 5<SP>11</SP> and fabric inserts 6. The fabric inserts 6 may extend transversely of the band in each cross-member to anchor to the cords 4, 41.</p> |
