PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test tube type discriminating device precisely discriminating types of a plurality of test tubes stored in a test tube rack and performing discrimination work in a short period of time. SOLUTION: This test tube type discriminating device is mainly characterized in having first and second electronic cameras 11 and 12 taking pictures of the plurality of test tubes 1 stored in the test tube rack 2 from the opening part direction and the side direction one by one respectively, a figure recognition device 13 recognizing a test tube figure including an individual frontal figure of the opening part and the side of the test tube 1 by giving data of respective images taken by the first and the second electronic cameras 11 and 12 respectively and extracting the outlines of the respective images, a standard figure memory 14 storing the individual frontal figure of the respective opening parts and sides of the plurality of types of test tubes 1 as the standard figures, and a comparison and determination device 15 determining the type of the test tube 1 by comparing the test tube figure recognized by the figure recognition device 13 with the standard figure of the plurality of types of test tubes 1 stored in the standard figure memory 14.
