PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable expression of gradations by a total volume of ink droplets discharged corresponding to one dot on a printing medium, and to prevent an image quality degradation due to clogging of ink. SOLUTION: The total volume of ink droplets of magenta, cyan and black discharged from nozzles corresponding to one dot on a paper among four colors of yellow, magenta, cyan and black is controlled to generate one of a large drop, a middle drop, a small drop, a minute drop and non discharge in accordance with a gradation value of pixels related to the ink discharge. The yellow easier to dry than the other colors is controlled to form one of the large drop, middle drop, small drop and non discharge. The small drop is selected in place of the minute drop.
