PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extremely effectively expel an approaching animal or to promote the growth of a plant, for example, in simple structure. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic wave generator is equipped with an ultrasonic wave generating element 11 formed by providing a heat insulating layer 111 on a substrate 110 and providing a heat generating thin film 112 on the heat insulating layer 111, and a signal source 12 connected to the film 112 of the ultrasonic wave generating element 11. The signal source 12 applies an electric signal of a variable frequency to the film 112 and drives the the film, thereby generating an ultrasonic wave of a frequency corresponding to the frequency of the electric signal from the surface of the film 112.
