PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that occurs when an electronically-controlled thermostat is positioned on a radiator side of an engine cooling system, warm-up operation at starting an engine requires some amount of time. SOLUTION: The engine cooling system uses the electronically-controlled thermostat 10 for controlling temperatures of cooling water of an internal combustion engine, is provided with a heating element on a temperature sensing part, and is capable of arbitrarily changing a valve opening without relying only on the actual temperatures. A main cooling water passage 3 on the engine exit side for introducing cooling water from the engine 1 to the radiator 2 is positioned to be adjacent to the radiator side (or mounted on a part of the radiator). The differential pressure valves 6, 7 are provided inside the main cooling water passages 3 and 4 for connecting the radiator 2 to the engine 1. Sub-bypass passages 8, 9 having small diameters are provided for leading cooling water between the differential pressure valves 6, 7 and the engine to the thermostat temperature sensing part.
