PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for forming a U-shaped cross section member, which does not require cores completely, and also does not require complicated and precise dies, and can easily drill holes thereon and mount components on the inside thereof. SOLUTION: The two U-shaped cross section members 1, 2 are bent with their flange ends 1a, 2a butted on each other. Otherwise, parts for caulking are formed on the end part of the two U-shaped cross section members, and the two U-shaped cross section members are bent with the parts for caulking engaged with each other. By this method, the bending of the U-shaped cross section members or closed cross section members having small deformation of the cross section and a nice appearance can be easily carried out without using cores and requiring precise and complicated dies. In addition, the method for forming the U-shaped cross section members can be provided, such that particularly, mounting of components and drilling of holes on the inside of the closed cross section member can be easily carried out.
