PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for uniformly forming a functional thin film on the surface of a large size glass substrate used in construction, or the like and to provide a thin film-coated glass substrate. SOLUTION: Large size sheet glass produced by the float bath method, i.e., by gradually hardening fused glass while casting it on an Sn bath, is used as the glass substrate. The substrate's bottom surface formed by the contact with the Sn bath is coated by spraying it with a coating liquid using an alcohol as the solvent and containing 5-15 mass% water while controlling the wetting properties of the coating liquid against the substrate. Thus, a uniform thin metal oxide film is formed thereon. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
