The direct drive for a cylinder (1), with a hollow shaft (2), has a drive housing (7) to hold a rotor (9) and at least one stator (11) secured to the drive housing. The rotor is keyed directly to the hollow shaft. The mounting for the shaft is within the drive housing, to pass out of the housing without a bearing. The drive housing is secured to a frame component (4). The oil or coolant or vapor for the operation of the cylinder is passed in (6) through the hollow shaft.
