<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe valve, surely kept in a complete open state while a catheter moves forward to prevent a secretion from being wiped off from the outside of the catheter. <P>SOLUTION: A closed system suction catheter has a patient end fitting 1 and a catheter 10 enclosed in a flexible envelop 24. The patient end fitting 1 has a valve 5 on the patient side, and the valve is normally closed. The valve has an external rigid housing 52 enclosing a one-piece integral elastomeric molding 50 of tubular shape. The molding 50 is provided with a web 56 extending across the diameter disposed in the inside of the molding, and the web is aligned with a pad and provided with a slit 57 extending in the direction of the diameter. A collar 60 mounted on the housing 52 is slidable along the housing to engage the pad 53 so as to apply pressure across the web 56 and open the slit 57.
