PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert core diameters by using a simple structure so as to align optical axes of optical fibers having different core diameters. SOLUTION: Ball lenses 20, 22 are disposed in specified positions determined by spacers 19, 21, 23 in a cylindrical sleeve 18, which means the center of the cylinder of the sleeve 18 determines the accuracy of alignment of optical axes. This realizes an apparatus for conversion of core diameters with easy assembling and mechanical accuracy to sufficiently align the optical axes with the accuracy of adjusting the center of the cylinder.
