PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus system by which a main subject is continuously focused by extracting the high-band frequency component signals from the video signals obtained from a camera so that the main focused subject and a subject (background image) other than the main subject can be easily discriminated, detecting the position of the main subject moving on a photographic image plane based on the high-band frequency component signals, changing the range of a focused area so as to include the detected position of the main subject or changing the photographic range of the camera so that the focused area may include the position of the main subject. SOLUTION: The image processor 30 is constituted so as to detect the position of the main subject based on the video signal obtained from the television camera 20, change the focused area so as to include the position of the main subject and perform focusing based on the video signal in the focused area.
