PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the temperature rise of a carrying roller or a guide at the upper part of a fixing device and to improve the efficiency of the energy consumption of the fixing device in an image forming apparatus having a vertical path carrying type thermal fixing device. SOLUTION: By feeding air to the upper space of the vertical path carrying type thermal fixing device and narrowing an aperture to the outside, the upper space is kept in a positive pressure state. When a heat insulating partition wall is provided between the upper carrying roller and the thermal fixing device in such a state, heat insulating action is more effectively realized.
