The method involves feeding a measurement current that is different from the photovoltaically produced current into the series circuit, evaluating the measurement current in an evaluation circuit (6), triggering an alarm signal on detecting a resistance for the series circuit above a threshold value or attenuation of the measurement current to below its desired current level. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a solar module; (2) a series circuit of solar modules.
