摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for suppressing a lowering of visibility caused by surface reflection in a display unit for changing over a display mode and a mirror mode. <P>SOLUTION: The display unit has a transmission polarization axis variable means (214), a first polarization selection means (231) arranged at an observation side of the transmission polarization axis variable means, transmitting first polarized light and reflecting second polarized light; a second polarization selection means (215) arranged rearward of the transmission polarization axis variable means, transmitting third polarized light, and absorbing or reflecting fourth polarized light; and an illumination means (220) arranged rearward of the second polarization selection means and irradiating the second polarization selection means with light.
