PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a practical molded article using cementite as the material, by utilizing the fact that the bulky cementite of high purity can be inexpensively provided in large quantity according to an invention which has been already disclosed by the inventors. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method comprises blending Fe with C while controlling an atom ratio of Fe to C to about 75 to 25, mechanically alloying (MA) it to obtain a MA powder, heating the obtained powder to 700-1,100°C while applying a pressure as needed, into a sintered compact of cementite Fe<SB>3</SB>C, and forging the sintered compact of the cementite by applying a pressure of 50 MPa or higher to it at 600-1,100°C. A part of Fe can be replaced with the other metal component M (which is selected among Na, K, Ca, Mg, Cr, Mn, Co, Mo, V, Ti, Ni, Al and Si). COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
