<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a both-surface display type liquid crystal display device that performs both-surface display by using one liquid crystal display element and reduces the occupation area, and displays an image observed on one surface side and an image observed on the other surface side by using illumination light from a surface light source or displays them by using external light as light in outer environment. <P>SOLUTION: On the front side and rear side of the liquid crystal display element 1 provided with a reflecting/transmitting means 10 of reflecting a portion of light incident on a plurality of pixels from the front side of a liquid crystal cell 2 and reflecting the remaining light behind a liquid crystal layer 5 of the liquid crystal cell 2, a front-side surface light source 25a and a rear-side surface light source 25b are arranged which project illumination light to the entire display area where the plurality of pixels A of the liquid crystal display element are arrayed and transmit the light incident from the front and rear sides. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
