PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic instrument in which a frame rate is prevented from being reduced when a transmission focus is moved. SOLUTION: The reference transmission times storage part 6d of a control part 6 stores reference transmission times to be the reference of the sum of transmission times in a whole FOV (field of view). A transmission focus thinning part 6e calculates the sum of the transmission times in the whole FOV by performing transmission in a data collection area corresponding to each transmission focus by transmission times which are set to a transmission times area corresponding to each transmission focus. When the sum exceeds the reference transmission times, actual transmission is performed by thinning not less than one transmission focus, so as to allow the sum of the transmission times in the whole FOV to coincide with the reference transmission times. As the frame rate is not reduced, excellent visibility is obtained for diagnosis. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
