PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material composed of a polybenzazole fiber, which can sufficiently maintain strengths even when exposed to high temperature and high humidity for a long period of time, and simultaneously has a high strength retention ratio after exposure to xenon beams. SOLUTION: By incorporating an organic pigment as a compound having an -N= and/or an NH- group in the molecular structure such as, a perinone and/or a perylene, a phthalocyanine, a quinacridone or a dioxazine which has a heat decomposition temperature of≥200°C, is highly heat-resistant, and soluble in a mineral acid into the polybenzazole fiber, the polybenzazole fiber is allowed to have a strength retention ratio, after exposure to xenon beams for 100 hours, of≥50% and a tensile strength retention ratio, after exposure in an atmosphere at a temperature of 80°C and having a relative humidity of 80% for 700 hours, of≥75%, and the composite material at least partially uses this fiber.
