PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for inspecting and taping a workpiece with which only a defective workpiece can be discharged if one of a plurality of workpieces to be supplied and inspected at a time is defective, only good workpieces can be surely transferred continuously without missing a carrier tape, and processing speed of the apparatus can be improved. SOLUTION: A workpiece storage recess 3 in which the workpiece W is put and a workpiece storage recess 3 in which no workpiece W is put possibly intermingle from a workpiece discharging part 7 to a workpiece transfer part 8. Whether or not the workpiece W is put in each of the recesses 3 is detected by a first sensor 9 and a second sensor 10. By controlling an amount of feeding the carrier tape 4 depending on the detection results, the good workpieces W are continuously transferred without missing the carrier tape 4.
