PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head movement data generation method and a printing method which enable an inkjet head to precisely perform main scanning. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer 1 has an X and Y moving mechanism 23 which comprises an X-axis table 24 for making the inkjet head 22 main scan, a Y-axis table 25 and a Y-axis guide 26 set at both ends of the X-axis table 24, respectively for making the head 22 vertical scan via the X-axis table 24. The Y-axis guide 26 is parallel to the Y-axis table 25. First, the X-axis table 24 is moved by the Y-axis table 25 in a vertical scanning direction by a predetermined amount. At this time, a movement amount from a reference position of the X-axis table 24 is measured at the Y-axis table 25 side and the Y-axis guide 26 side. Movement data of the Y-axis table 25 at the time of main scanning is generated so that an actual main scanning line obtained on the basis of the two measured values becomes parallel to a reference main scanning line which connects two reference positions.
